SOYSA promotes Soccer for Youth in  Keremeos, Oliver, Osoyoos, Penticton and Summerland, British Columbia from Mini-Soccer to District Teams for Girls and Boys.

1.                  How many players are there on a team?

·        Mini – there are 5 on a team, no goalie

·        Youth – U11 and U12 have 8 on a team including goalie

·        Youth – U13 and up have 11 on a team including goalie

2.                  Can girls play on boys teams?

·        Yes they can.

3.                  If a player wants to play on a District Team, do they have to register for Youth as well?

·        No, there is a separate District Registration Form. You can download the form if you go to the menu on top of the page, and navigate to District and then Registration.

4.                  If a player is an affiliate player for a District Team do they have to pay both registrations?

·        An affiliated player is registered in the Youth League, pays the current fee, if he becomes an affiliated player he is charged an additional $ 30.00.

5.                  How many games can an affiliate player play on a District team in one Season?

·        They can play as many games as they like.

6.                  How many ex District players can play on a Youth Team?

·        It doesn’t matter if you have played on a district team in the past – as long as you are not currently playing on a district team, you can play on a Youth team.

7.                  Are there tournaments for Youth Teams?

·        There is one tournament at the end of the season, called the SOYSA CUP.

8.                  What equipment is necessary for a soccer player?

·        Shinpads are mandatory as are soccer socks.  Cleats are optional.

10.             If a player is injured early in the season, can they get a refund if they are not able to play?

·        Yes, a full refund will be forthcoming up to May 15th. After this date $ 20.00 is withheld to cover insurance costs which have already been remitted to BC Soccer.

11.             If a player changes his/her mind, and doesn’t want to play soccer, is there a refund?

·        Yes, up to April 15th, a full refund is available. Up to April 30th, a 50% refund is available.

12.             What scholarship opportunities are there for SOYSA soccer players?

·        SOYSA has a $ 500.00 scholarship available upon application, for both girls & boys. Click here for details.

13.             What is District Soccer?

·        District Soccer is a program provided for players who excel at the sport, who are wanting a more competitive league to play in and who will be hoping to make soccer a part of their future, either via scholarships or job opportunities.  This league plays teams in the Valley from Kamloops to Penticton.  They have playdowns to see what area will represent our zone in the Provincials.

14.             Can a player play in an older age group in Youth/or District if they feel they are not being challenged enough?

·        This option is available, however a request has to be made and a Committee looks at a variety of guidelines that the player should meet.  This request must go through our Head Coach.

15.             For the Youth League, where are the games?

·        Youth games are every Saturday, they can be in Osoyoos, Oliver, Penticton, Keremeos or Summerland.  Some games will be scheduled on Friday evenings to help make the league work.

16.       For the Youth League, how often do they practice?

·        Usually most Coaches will schedule 2 practices a week, either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday – it all depends on the Coach’s availability during the week-days.
