Sept. 11th, 2006 by Kathy Levesque The 1994 Girls' Pinnacles team finished off the Peach Classic tournament with the silver medals. First game of the weekend matched the Pinnacles against the Surrey Blue Dolphins. Nikita Afonso put the first goal into net, with another two being added by Kara Perehudoff during the first half. Zoe Fraser added one more, to give a 4-0 win. Saturday morning proved a tough challenge against the Red Deer Renegades, the Pinnacles giving up a 5-1 loss. Despite the strength of defensive players Brianne Hrynyk, Thea Anderson, Shayna Lawrie and Dezzy Williams the opposition was able to push through. Gabby Levesque scored the single goal for Penticton. Maple Ridge Crushers gave the Pinnacles a good run on the field later that day, but were unable to score against goalies Anne Theilmann and Nikita Afonso. Bryanne Francisco led our scoring with an awesome shot. Additional goals by Adra Greig and Gabby Levesque resulted in a 3-0 home team win. The final tournament game for the '94 girls was pure excitement throughout the entire play. Very evenly matched, the Williams Lake Prowler Pride and Pinnacles both had countless attempts on net, but neither team managed to score. The 0-0 game was a crowd-pleaser for all.
Special awards for the 2005-2006 season were presented as follows: * Dezzy Williams - Most Improved Player * * Carolyn Johnson - Most Sportsmanlike Player * * Thea Anderson - Most Dedicated Player * * Gabby Levesque - Most Valuable Player *
A huge thank you goes out to all involved with the team, from coaches Kathy Levesque, Duarte Francisco and Dave Theilmann.
Tryouts for the new 1994 Girls Pinnacles team will take place in September under the coaching duo of Tony Afonso and Duarte Francisco. |

August 2nd, 2006 by Pastor Charles Roberts I am a youth pastor at Bethel Church in Penticton. Last year I started a non-profit organization called Global Youth Impact. It is through this organization that we are taking these trips. Our organization is called Global Youth Impact, we are based out of Penticton BC. We do two things: 1. Assist the poor and needy in Mexico by providing basic food, shelter, clothes, school supplies...... you name it! We do not just put a patch on the problem there, rather we have partnered with The Erma Fennel Foundation For Needy Children to assist long there the effects of poverty in the Vincente Gurerro area. 2. Also, our goal is to take Canadians down their to experience for themselves a needy environment. In doing this it raises awareness of how We take groups of people from high school age to retired seniors. Each trip in individualized to meet the wanted experience of that particular group. Things we usually do: - play lots of soccer with the kids! - handout food and clothing - run childrens programs
The children literally loved the Soccer Balls. They were so excited! I wish you could have seen the looks on their faces. Thank you again so much. If you have anymore balls in the future please consider donating them again as we would love to take them to the children!

(back row left): manager Pat Conway, Amy Buzikievich, Brittany Pearce, Olivia Shaw, Kaitlyn Atkinson, Kim Conway, Katie Filek, Madeleine Greig and coach Len Filek. Front row: Jenny Severide, Kelly Furness, Dana Leahy, Tasha Bell, Jackie Stelkia, Abby Perehudoff, Sarah Cornett Ching, Angie Smythe and Melissa Bilko. Missing: Kaitlyn Pisiak.
In their opening game on Thursday at noon, the Pinnacles defeated Williams Lake with a score of 3-nil. It was an easy win for the Pinnacles, with midfielder Amy Buzikievich scoring two goals and Tasha Bell one. Friday’s nine o’clock game had the Pinnacles take on the Cranbrook Ramblers. This second game was the Pinnacle’s only loss in the tournament. Forward Kim Conway scored the team’s lone goal in the second half, while Cranbrook put two goals on the scoreboard. The girls played, what coach Len Filek called, ‘their best game of the season’, against the Sunshine Coast Scorpions Saturday at noon. The Scorpions were a tough team to beat, but the Pinnacles rallied and they did it. The passing was excellent and the ball handling was a joy to watch. After a through ball from Angie Smythe, forward Tasha Bell started the scoring. Katie Filek followed and finished a cross from Buzikievich to make it 2-nil. After watching Italy play France on Sunday in the soccer world cup final in Germany and getting a taste of winning, the Pinnacles took on Bays United Raiders of Victoria in the game for the gold. It was an outstanding and hard played game that went into half time with a score of nil-nil. The Pinnacles couldn’t capitalize on their numerous scoring chances and with five minutes to go in the game, a Bays United striker managed to finally brake through Penticton’s defense and score their winning goal of the game. An impressive silver medal for the U15 Pinnacles made parents, coach and manager proud. Well done, girls! The team will cap off the season on August 18 – 20 with the Penticton Peach City Classic soccer tournament.

From L-R: Ross Rufiange, Andrew Swann, Evan Frymire, Jessie Moreno
The Gold Medal game featured the Pinnacles against the Peninsula Hurricanes from Victoria. The Pinnacles started strong but it was the Hurricanes who scored first. They Pinnacles rallied as Rufiange scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-2. July 10th, 2006 by Marcia Evans The Pinnacle Boys met against Victoria yesterday, Sunday afternoon, 2pm. Both teams wanting to take 1st place in their division. A hard fought game played by both sides, but Victoria came out ahead with the final score 3 to 2. |
July 8th, 2006 by Mark Rufiange Another Win for the U16 Pinnacle Boys. The game was against the host team Prince George Kodiaks. The final score 5 - 3 for us. PG. scored the first goal and we scored the second ( Jesse Mareno from Sean Petersen) PG then scored again to take the lead 2-1; we then scored at 39:00 (Dale Mounsey Goal with a nice corner from Sean Petersen) .... therefore tied going into 1/2 time. The first half was a bit of a scramble and we were not playing our game. Pg. was beating us to the ball. The second 1/2 was much better at 52:00 with Ross Rufiange scoring one from a pass from Sean Petersen again. Shortly after at 54:00 we scored again with a nice goal from Jesse Moreno then at 60:00 Dale Mounsey scored on a nice pass from Andrew Swann. Pg. put one more in to make the final score 5-3 ...... a nice victory. Tomorrow , we will play the gold medal match at 2:00 PM. It will most likely be against a team from Sidney call Pennisula Hurricanes. They are leading in the other pool. We feel confident we can beat them. |

June 19th, 2006 by Scott Frymire The U16 Pinnacles earned their 3RD straight GOLD by defeating Vernon 5-3 in Kamloops on June 18th. Vernon was coming out of a 5-1 victory over Kelowna and was full of confidence facing the Pinnacles in the Regional Final. Vernon had a great start and jumped out to a 2 goal lead early in the game. The Pinnacles then huddled up and regrouped. At about the 30 minute mark Andrew Swann was fouled in the penalty area and Sean Petersen scored on the ensuing penalty kick. The score at the half was 2-1 for Vernon. The entire Pinnacle team showed their grit and character by not panicking and sticking to their league winning strategy of legendary ball possession, precision passion and wearing down the opposition with relentless pressure on their defenders. This game would prove to be no different. At about the 55th minute Ross Rufiange tied the game catching the Vernon Keep out of position. Then at about the 60th minute Petersen let fly a high rocket from the 20 yard line that hit the cross bar and deflected in giving the Vernon goalie no chance. Two minutes later Dale Mounsey beat the keeper with a hard low shot and suddenly the Pinnacles were up 4-2. Vernon made it interesting by scoring their 3rd goal at the 70th minute. Vernon was able to exert some pressure but solid play by the defenders, Nate Speijer, Julian Timmermans, Evan Frymire, Kirk Chavarie and Keeper Brendan Frizzi held strong. The defenders were supported by midfielders Spencer Keene, Byron Burgart, Chris Kapusty and Tom Denton and Dylan Oakes. Eric Niehe and Jessie Moreno both had several excellent scoring chances on the forward line. In the 88th minute Petersen scored his 3rd goal of the game to ‘ice the cake’ and end the game 5-3. The Pinnacles now represent the Thompson Okanagan District at the Provincials in Prince George on July 6th -9th. |

June 19th, 2006 by Marcia Evans On June 16th and 17th, the 5 boys teams, S1, P1, P2, Oliver and Osoyoos played in the SOYSA Cup tournament at Maggie Field. Each team played 4 games with P1 and P2 tying for first place. A shoot-out took place with each team having 5 players taking turns on shooting on the net. The first nine shots were either stopped or missed the net. Then the last shooter for P1, took his place, and placed the ball right into the net. P1 won the tournament with P2 coming in 2nd. Summerland Boys came in 3rd, Osoyoos in 4th and Oliver 5th. A good day was had by all. The SOYSA League Champion Team was Osoyoos, coached by Edgar Costa. Congratulations boys! |
June 19th, 2006 by Tom Hoenisch The U12 Pinnacle boys finished their playoff drive with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Vernon. Matthew Bateman of the Pinnacles opened the scoring on a great shot but then Vernon scored after a defensive miscue and Vernon added a second goal on a penalty shot. The Pinnacles swarmed all around the Vernon net for the last ten minutes but they just couldn't get the equalizer. Josh Manning had a particularly strong game and Quin Erzinger played very well in goal. |
June 19th, 2006 by Bob Leslie At this past weekends TOYSL Cup League Championships in Kamloops, the U-15 Boys Pinnacles took home the Silver Medal after a heart breaking double overtime loss to Kamloops in the finals. The team played arguably their best game of the season holding Kamloops to a 0 - 0 draw through 80 minutes of regulation time ,and into the second period of overtime, only to have Kamloops score what proved to be the winning goal in that second overtime period. Although obviously disappointed, the U-15 Boys have nothing to hang their heads about, they played terrific soccer and dominated the majority of the play in both their weekend matches. Saturday`s game against Vernon to qualify for the final, was a thrilling double overtime shoot out win. Vernon went ahead 1 nil on a penalty shot earlier in the first half but undaunted the Pinnacles game back to tie it up on a lovely cross by striker Austen Owen, that was driven home by Randy Hubber. The second half action went back & forth but remained tied at the end of regulation time forcing two 5 minute overtime periods. Both teams traded opportunities but again no scoring, resulting in the sudden death shoot out, which saw all 5 Penticton shooters score and Evan Peatt who`s play was spectacular all weekend made a great save on one of the Vernon shooters and the Pinnacles won 5 - 3. The shoot out scorers were Austen Owen,Tyler Machial,Dion Gouldsborough, Nate Surkan & Randy Hubber. Both weekend games were total team efforts with all players deserving of MVP honours, however special mention goes to Nathan Surkan who`s leadership, drive and play was exemplary. The pinnacles team consists of: Mark & Patrick Allan from Keremeos,Adam Barbour,Jon Chernoff,Taylor Keene ,Marino Mellaart, Austen Owen, Evan Peatt,Nathan Surkan, Christian Thibodeau & Harley Duff-us all from Penticton, Morgan Brownjohn from Osoyoos, Tyler Machial from Oliver and Jeremy Dick,Dion Gouldsborough, Randy Hubber,Sean Leslie,Jordan Said and Lean Savage all from Summerland. Lead by Head Coach- Bary Owen, Assistant Coach - Bob Leslie and Manger extraordinaire - Mary Keene. |
June 13th, 2006 by Scott Frymire SOYSA U16 boys tied Vernon to finish first in their division and earn a bye to the playoff finals in Kamloops this Sunday. The Pinnacles traveled to Marshall Field in Vernon on June 10th to take on the Vernon Squad. Ross Rufiange opened the scoring on the first play of the game at about the 15 second mark. The score remained one nil until Vernon scored to tie the game in the last 5 minutes. The tie gave the Pinnacles first place with 7 points while Kelowna finished second with 6. Vernon finished 3rd with 4 points. Kelowna and Vernon will play off to see who will face the Pinnacles on June 17th, 11am at Norkam Field in Kamloops. The winner will represent our region in the Provincials which take place in Prince George July 6-9th. |
June 13th, 2006 by Tom Hoenisch The Pinnacle U12 boys finished off the regular season with a couple of tough losses. On Thursday they lost 2-0 to Kelowna at home and on Sunday they traveled to Salmon Arm where they lost 5-1. Matthew Bateman scored the lone goal for the Pinnacles. The Pinnacles were right in this match until the second half when Salmon Arm scored on two penalty shots to take a 3-1 lead. The Pinnacles still qualified for the playoffs which take place in Kamloops this weekend. The winner of these playoffs will go to the Provincial B championships in Prince George next month. |
June 13th, 2006 by Marcia Evans Sean Wallace, the Head Coach for the U12 Boys Interior Soccer Team, will be having tryouts: Boys - June 24th - Vernon, Marshall Field at 1pm and June 25th at MacArthur Island # 5 at noon. Those interested in trying out for the boys teams please express interest to the following e-mail address, summergames2006u12boys@shaw.ca and indicate the tryout attending. The 2006 Summer Games are to be held in Kamloops from July 27th to July 30th. Sean is asking Coaches to pass along kids names to himself that would be interested in trying out. Sean needs to know approximately how many boys will be trying out so that he has enough evaluators at the try-outs. Any player interested can call Sean at: 250 372 9505 or email: swallace@bdo.ca This tournament will be in a Super 8 format and thus the team will consist of 12 players chosen from Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops, Salmon Arm and Revelstoke. As soon as final dates, times and fields are available - they will be posted here as well as on the KYSA website. |
June 10th, 2006 by Bob Leslie The U-15 Boys Pinnacles ended regular season play with a strong 4 - 1 victory over perennial rivals Salmon Arm. The Pinnacles struck early at the 2:27 mark of the first half with a nice goal from Summerland`s Randy Hubber, who would go on to score 3 more times including a blistering top corner penalty shot that the Salmon Arm keeper had no chance on. The pinnacles after suffering their only defeat of the season last weekend in Kamloops, wanted to finish their season on a high note, and did just that by totally dominating their rivals for all but a few minutes in the second half when the "never say die" Salmon Arm squad netted their first & only goal of the match. Pinnacles keeper Evan Peat played a superb game in net stopping numerous Salmon arm scoring opportunities. This was an entire team victory with strong defensive play lead by back end quarter back Nate Surkan & Jeremy Dick, Jordan Said, Hartley Dufus & Laen Savage who was playing his first game back after suffering a broken foot earlier in the season Strong 2 way midfield play by Marino Mellaart, Dion Gouldsborough, Taylor Keene, Mark & Patrick Allan, & Adam Barbour set up several of the goals by controlling the field and keeping the play in the Salmon Arm end for most of the match. Hard work by strikers Tyler Machial , Austen Owen & Sean Leslie resulted in numerous close scoring chances and was also instrumental in helping set up several of the goals. The victory was even more dramatic as the Pinnacles were missing veteran midfielder Morgan Brownjohn ( concussion) defensive stalwart Christian Thibodeau ( back) and rookie Jon Chernoff. The Pinnacles who`s record in league play was 6 wins, 1 loss & 1 tie look forward to district playdowns in Kamloops this coming weekend, where they hope to win a second consecutive TOYSL Cup & trip to the Provincials in Prince George. Go Pinnacles , Go !!!! |
June 8th, 2006 by Scott Frymire The Pinnacles bested Kelowna 6-2 last Tuesday, June 6th, in a scheduled game at Constable Neil Bruce field in Westbank. The Pinnacles opened the scoring at the 15th minute on a Dale Mounsey free kick from about 22 yards. Jessie Moreno and Tom Denton created havoc in the defenders wall and enabled Mounsey to hammer home a low rocket of a kick. Kelowna replied with two goals to take the lead. In the 44th minute Evan Frymire scored off a Mounsey throw in to tie the game on the last play of the first half. The Pinnacles enjoyed the majority of the ball possession in the first half and created many excellent scoring opportunities. In the second half it was all Pinnacles as they went on to score 4 more goals. Moreno from Kirk Chavarie, Mounsey from Denton, Ross Rufiange from Mounsey and Chavarie from Rufiange. The final game of the season will be in Vernon on June 10. |

June 7th, 2006 by Silvia
Kelowna opened the scoring with only 30 seconds into the game, putting the ball into Penticton’s net past a confused Penticton defense and keeper. After this wake-up call, the Pinnacles started to rally and had numerous chances that just missed Kelowna’s net. Tasha Bell just blasted the ball over the net after an indirect kick from within the penalty box, Katie Filek, Abby Perehudoff and Melissa Bilko all had shots on goal, narrowly missing every time. The game went into half time with Kelowna leading 1-nil. The Pinnacles started the second half with putting more pressure on Kelowna. Bilko had two more shots on goal, but just couldn’t capitalize. Midfielders Madeleine Greig, Amy Buzikievich, Kim Conway and Dana Leahy put tireless effort into the game, but Kelowna walked away with the one goal win. ***
Katie Filek started off the scoring just minutes into the game after a beautiful cross from Sarah-Cornett Ching. Vernon evened that score shortly after with a shot too high for keeper Stelkia. The match started getting somewhat physical and the referee had his work cut out for him. Vernon scored just before half time after a runaway through the middle, giving them the 2-1 lead going into half time. Amy Buzikievich netted the second goal for the Pinnacles shortly into the second half of the game, finishing the match with a 2-2 draw. June 6th, 2006 by Tom and Sue Steele The U12 girls travelled to Salmon Arm on Sunday, although losing 2 to 1 to the host team the Pinnacles dominated most of the game. June 6th, 2006 by Gary Hovey The U16 Valley First Pinnacle girls left Kamloops Sunday with a 1-1 tie. Penticton looked to have the edge early and opened the scoring midway through the first half when Diana Harrison finished off a nice passing play with a hard shot that easily went by the Kamloops net minder. Kamloops came out hard in the second and scored quickly with a high shot just under the cross-bar. Penticton rallied and had numerous chances that just missed. A spectacular chance came when defender Lana Golin made a brilliant run taking the ball from her 20 down the sideline where she was finally tackled by the opposing defense. On the ensuing penalty kick she passed the ball short to her team-mate in the corner. Kamloops took the bait and chased it leaving Golin wide-open. It was a perfect setup. Her team-mate passed it back with Golin on the run 20 ft from the wide-eyed Kamloops goalie. Her shot hit the post which typified the game for Penticton. The Pinnacles played well but were unable to finish off the Blaze.aa |
June 5th, 2006 by Marinus Mellaart The U15 Pinnacles were in action Thursday (June 1, 2006) night at Dale Meadows fields in Summerland. Austen Owen (Penticton) started the scoring by netting a penalty kick after a nasty Kelowna tackle inside the 18 yard box. The younger Kelowna team was very aggressive and matched well against the older Pinnacles. Pinnacles striker Marino Mellaart (Penticton) would net the second goal and the eventual game winner before the second half, Dion Gouldsborough (Penticton) laid an awesome ball towards the face of the Kelowna goal, and the Pinnacles Captain (Marino) was able to get a head on the ball and direct it into the net. Marino would be subbed off soon after, for a well-deserved breather, he would later rejoin his team on the field late in the second half in a defensive position to help ensure the win. Three minutes into the second half Kelowna got their first goal. After the dust settled, and the game running the full time, the Pinnacles won the game 2 -1 |
June 5th, 2006 by Tom and Sue Steele The U12 Girls travelled to Kelowna on Sunday to play the Kelowna 1 team. The Pinnacles were slow off the start allowing Kelowna 2 goals in the first half. With aggresive for checking Kara Perehudoff stole the ball from the Kelowna goal keeper but missed the open goal by inches. The second half saw the Pinnacles keep the Kelowna team hemmed in their zone most of the time. Strong play by Carolyn Johnson, Adra Greig, and Mel Girard put the pressure on Kelowna. Anne Theilmann kept the game close with some very good saves in net. Final score was 2 to 1 for Kelowna. Next game for the Pinnacles is June 4 in Salmon Arm, good luck girls. |

Forward Cassandra Goodis led the scoring with two goals. The first came midway through the first with a well placed shot inside the box. Though Vernon managed to tie it five minutes later, Goodis put Penticton back in the lead near the end of the half by dribbing through the Vernon defense and getting another shot close in. In the second winger Chelsey Beierle put Penticton ahead 3-1 by weaving from the 20 through the heart of Vernon defense to touch it past the Vernon goalie. Vernon struck back late in the half, but their efforts were quickly dashed when forward Carly Stocker cinched the 4-2 victory for Penticton with a solid shot inside the box. The victory is Penticton's six of the season, putting them 6-1-1 having tied once and lost once to Kelowna United. |

May 19th, 2006 by Marinus Mellaart It was a damp and cloudy day Friday night at Graeme Field in Vernon, but our boys found a way to shine. Adam Barbour (Penticton) scored early in the first half against Vernon, but Vernon managed to tie the game soon after. Morgan Brownjohn (Osoyoos) then netted the second goal from about 30 yards out from the Vernon net, giving the Pinnacles the lead once again. The Pinnacles dominated both halves and were rewarded once again from a brilliant shot just outside the 18 yard box from Dion Gouldsborough half way through the second half. June 5th, 2006 by Scott Frymire The U16 boys Pinnacles remain undefeated. They showed great poise and confidence as they came from behind to defeat Kelowna 5-4. The Pinnacles faced Kelowna at Constable Neil Bruce field in Westbank in extremely wet conditions on May 25th, 2006. Jessie Moreno scored at the 15 minute mark to take a one nothing lead. Evan Frymire made it 2 to nil converting a Sean Petersen cross in the 25th minute. Petersen made it 3 nil on a penalty shot in the 40th minute. Kelowna was then awarded a penalty shot in the 44th minute and the half ended the score 3-1. Pinnacles carried the play and enjoyed ball possession for the majority of the first half.
In the 55th minute Kelowna was awarded a penalty shot which they capitalized on and it seemed to give them new life as they went on to score 2 more goals in the 60th and 61st minutes. Uncharacteristic sloppy play by the Pinnacles defenders allowed these two very quick goals and suddenly the Pinnacles were down 4-3. The Pinnacles continued to dominate the play and controlled the ball and it was only a matter of time before they scored again. The relentless offense of the Pinnacles served up another penalty kick which Petersen again made good on to tie the game up 4-4 in the 68 th minute. In the 75th minute Dale Mouncey converted a Petersen free kick with a spectacular header surprising the Kelowna keeper by leaping high in the air just in front of him as he waited for the incoming ball. They ball was expertly directed by the head of Mouncey past the hapless goalie and into the net which proved to be the game winner.
This win gives the Pinnacles an excellent shot at earning a bye to the Playoff finals. They need only to beat Vernon on June 10th at Marshall Field in Vernon to clinch first place.

Keeper Jackie Stelkia (Oliver) withstood Kelowna’s pressure throughout the first half but couldn’t continue in the second half due to an injury. Midfielders Dana Leahy (Penticton), Madeleine Greig (Penticton) and Tasha Bell (Penticton) were playing hard to keep up with Kelowna’s offense. The Pinnacles’ defense – Brittany Pearce (Penticton), Angie Smythe (Summerland) and Jenny Severide (Summerland) - was kept busy, but The team takes a break over the May long weekend and will get back into league play on June 1, when they will travel to Kelowna for their second last league game.

May 18th, 2006 by Marinus Mellaart The U15 BOYS SOYSA Pinnacles were in action at Constable Neil Bruce field against the Kelowna U15b team. The Pinnacles were eager to test the Kelowna team early on and maintained 80% possession throughout the first half. Tyler Machial of Oliver started the scoring halfway through the first half giving the Pinnacles the lead. Captain Marino Mellaart, who was playing injured, netted a goal after Tyler was fouled by the goalkeeper in the 18 yard box, but the advantage was played and Marino slammed in the second goal. Tyler and Marino would almost connect on several occasions when Tyler would take the corner kicks, and Marino would attempt the header – narrowly missing. Patrick Allan (Keremeos) also came close on headers from Tyler, and almost single handedly blasted a shot just past midfield and just wide of the mark. The second half was more of the same for the Pinnacles with the hard work of Randy Hubber (Summerland) crossing the ball for Sean Leslie (Summerland) who netted the third goal for the Pinnacles. Kelowna would net their lone goal from an unfortunate communication error between the Pinnacles Keeper and his midfielder. The Kelowna team seemed to get some wind in their sails when Marino Mellaart (Penticton) ran through several defenders, and almost got past the Kelowna Goalkeeper, but was fouled – he was then awarded the dreaded Penalty Kick. Randy Hubber took the kick and scored the fourth goal on behalf of the injured Captain – Marino Mellaart - who was unable to continue for the rest of the game. The Pinnacles were really backed up by an awesome display of defending led by veteran full back Jeremy Dick (Summerland). Veteran defender Nate Surkan (Penticton) and Rookie Jordan Said (Summerland) were the other two full backs that brilliantly held off the Kelowna strikers. Final score Pinnacles 4 – Kelowna 1.

Midfielder Diana Harrison scored the first goal well into the first half, and by the end of the half Penticton was dominating the play. In the second Penticton had numerous scoring chances. Penticton pressured Salmon Arm right from the whistle and wouldn’t give the opposition a chance to even come close to Penticton’s net. Katie Filek, Kim Conway, Sarah Cornett-Ching and Melissa Bilko had numerous shots on goal throughout the first half but couldn’t capitalize on their chances. The girls went into half-time with only one goal to show. Salmon Arm turned up their defense yet another notch in the second half and despite the Pinnacles’ pressure, they just could not put the ball into Salmon Arm’s net. The break came with only five minutes to go in the game when Melissa Bilko was fouled in front of the net, resulting in a penalty kick for Penticton. Buzikievich turned this penalty-kick into the second goal for Penticton with a strong shot into Salmon Arm’s right corner of the net. The girls wanted to keep the momentum going and not two minutes later Katie Filek didn’t hesitate after a pass from Madeleine Greig, finishing the game with a The U15 Pinnacles’ record in league play stands at four wins and one tie so far. Penticton opened the scoring when Kylaina Afonso scored on a penalty shot 15 minutes in. Kelowna pressed and with seconds to go in the first they tied it 1-1 . In the second both teams rung shots off the goal posts as both goalies scrambled to keep the game close. At one point Penticton goalie Alida Wiens grabbed the ball outside the box to stop a break-away. The risk paid off as Kelowna failed to capitalise on the subsequent free kick. In a more aggressive move the Kelowna goalie fouled Penticton winger Chelsey Beierle in the box. The injured Beierle made no mistake on the penalty shot. The Pinnacles outplayed the opposition in the first half, resulting in a 3-0 lead going into half-time. Leading of the scoring was Abby Perehudoff, who scored after a pass from Tasha Bell. Bell followed with two goals shortly after, scoring the first one after a corner kick from Perehudoff and the second one after a cross from Kim Conway. Melissa Bilko worked tirelessly in midfield, while Dana Leahy and Brittany Pearce were outstanding in defense. Vernon finally got somewhat close to the Penticton net at the start of the second half and managed to score their first and only goal. The answer to Vernon’s lone goal followed right away by some excellent play from Kim Conway and Amy Buzikievich. Conway scored on a perfect through-ball from Buzikievich, bringing the score to 4-1. Right from the starting whistle the girls put on the pressure with numerous shots on goal. April 24th, 2006 from Marinus Mellaart On Saturday April 22, 2006 the SOYSA Pinnacles played an Exhibition game against Calgary at Kings Park in Penticton. Several youth teams from Calgary were down for the long weekend and remained in the Okanagan until the end of this weekend. The SOYSA U15 team was to play against the Calgary in the Kelowna “Ice Breaker” tournament during the long weekend, but due to scheduling the U15 SOYSA Pinnacles team was placed in a lower “B” division – which the Pinnacles won handily. The select Calgary team was poised for this game, having had a warm up earlier in the day with Fitness training. The first 10 minutes of the play was even on both sides until a brilliant run by Tyler Machial of Oliver netted the first goal. Many brilliant runs and passes by midfielders Morgan Brownjohn (Osoyoos) and Nate Surkan (Penticton) created many scoring chances, but the Calgary team was determined to tie the game. U15 Pinnacles Captain Marino Mellaart (Penticton) then made a brilliant run along the left side and a through ball by Morgan Brownjohn created an awesome show of determination, but Marino Mellaart only managed to ring the ball off of the Calgary goalkeepers face. In the second half the Pinnacles showed their skill, easily sliding the through balls through the Calgary defense, Marino Mellaart (Penticton) would then score two goals in short order, each by out pacing the Calgary defenses, slipping past the Calgary keeper, and then safely nudging it into the net each time. Marino almost had a Hat trick in the final minutes but was nudged from behind and his shot narrowly missed the mark. Pinnacles 3 - Calgary 0 Tyler Machial of Oliver netted the first goal Sunday against their League rivals from Salmon Arm at Kings Park in Penticton. Tyler took a quick shot that took both the Salmon Arm defense by surprise as it did the goalkeeper, since it went off of the back of the keeper’s leg and into the net. Salmon Arm claimed a no goal, stating it went through the side of the net, however, the Referee made an inspection of the netting and confirmed the goal. Each side was cautious and both sides had scoring opportunities in the first half, but at the end of the half the Pinnacles were on top by one. Jeremy Dick (Summerland) was called up to replace an injured Pinnacles defender. Jeremy showed amazing poise and confidence and was a big factor in shutting down the Salmon Arm team. Early in the second half a determined Pinnacles offence slipped the ball to Tyler Machial to what seemed to be the game clincher – putting the Pinnacles ahead 2 - 0. However, Salmon Arm were not to be denied, with some fancy maneuvers in the midfield a stretched out defence they soon netted one of their own a few minutes after Tyler’s goal. – Closing the score to 2 -1. The Pinnacles seemed to be out hustled, and after some shaky passing in the midfield and some miscommunication with the fresh defense, Salmon Arm was able to capitalize with mere seconds left to play and tied the game. Final score Pinnacles 2- Salmon Arm 2
April 24th, 2006 from Gary Hovey Pinnacle U14 Girls Top off a Winning Week with a 7 – 0 Romp over Vernon

April 20th, 2006 from Tom Hoenish The U12 Pinnacle Boys ran into some stiff wind and some stiff competition in Kelowna on Wednesday evening as they faced a tough Kelowna U12 team. Spencer Dunstan-Adams from Penticton scored on a nice cross from Brayden Hearne but that was the only goal the Pinnacles could muster in a 5-1 defeat. Next up for the U12 Boys is an exhibition game on Saturday against a Calgary squad.
April 18, 2006 from Marinus Mellaart The game started on a good footing with midfielder Nate Surkan (Penticton) netting the Pinnacles first goal. However, the spirited Kelowna United team were quick off the mark and were able to level the score shortly after. Fleet footed midfielder Morgan Brownjohn (Osoyoos) soon put the Pinnacles back in the lead, but that too was short lived and before the end of the first half the score was tied at two a piece. With the wind at their backs, Sean Leslie (Summerland) netted two quick goals to decimate the Kelowna United defense. Striker Austen Owen (Penticton) also netted two goals in quick succession to put any Kelowna comeback out of reach. Many more goals were there for the making, but many rattled off the post or the crossbar. Marino Mellaart (Penticton) netted what seemed to be a sure goal, only to be later disallowed for being offside by the rookie linesman, He would later cross the ball in for Randy Hubber (Summerland) for the final goal – Pinnacles 7 – Kelowna United 2 .
April 18, 2006 from Silvia The Pinnacles took on some tough competition this past weekend at Kelowna’s 2006 Icebreaker Soccer Tournament. The team tallied one win, one tie and two losses throughout the tourney.
The girls played their second match against the Willow Ridge Mustangs from Calgary that same day in the afternoon and posted a 2-0 win. Scoring for the Pinnacles were Amy Buzikievich and Abby Perehudoff. The game got quite physical and saw keeper Sarah Cornett-Ching (Summerland) off the field with injury. MVP honours went to Olivia Shaw, who played outstanding defense throughout the game.
Kamloops kept pressuring in the second half, but couldn’t break through the Pinnacles’ tight defense. Olivia Shaw, Angie Smythe (Summerland), Kelly Furness, Brittany Pearce and Jenny Severide (Summerland) did a great job keeping the Kamloops players at distance from Penticton’s net. Kamloops finally tied the game with a well-executed penalty shot, unstoppable for Stelkia (Oliver). Melissa Bilko was awarded MVP honours in this match.
Playing their last game against Kelowna United on Sunday morning, the Pinnacles were off to a good start with lots of ball control in the first half. Despite the Pinnacles dominating for some time, Kelowna scored their first goal and never looked back. The Pinnacles suffered their second loss in the tournament with a score of 3-0. MVP honours went to midfielder Dana Leahy.
Great soccer weekend, girls!

April 16, 2006 from Tom Hoenish The U12 SOYSA boys Pinnacles competed in an exciting tournament in Kelowna on the Easter Weekend. The boys earned a silver medal for a second place finish in their division. The first game was against the Vernon U12B team. Our boys played well but came out on the losing end of a 4-3 game. Scoring for the Pinnacles was Spencer Dunstan-Adams, Brayden Hearne and Joel Marte. On Saturday the first game for the Pinnacles was against the Kamloops U12B squad. It was a real battle on a frigid morning but the Pinnacles prevailed 2-1 on goals by Dunstan-Adams and Tim Grimard from Rico Patrocinio. Morgan Parker in goal stopped a penalty shot at a crucial juncture in the game to preserve the win. In the afternoon game the Pinnacles outlasted one Kelowna U12 team 2-0 to finish a stellar day. Hearne and Layne Richardson scored for the Pinnacles while Grimard and Quin Erzinger shared in the shut-out. Finally on Sunday the Pinnacles played the second Kelowna U12 team in the Gold Medal game. The Pinnacles never seemed to get untracked and Kelowna marched to a 4-0 win. All in all, the tourney was a valuable learning experience for a young exciting team.

Losing 3 to 2. Natalie Webb and Kristie Steele picked up the goals. Strong play from the defence kept the game close. On April 11th the U12 girls team came away with a 3 to 0 win against Kelowna. Nikita Afonso was stellar in goal, making many keys saves to collect the shut out. Brianne Hrynyk started the scoring with Melanie Girard adding two more to round out the scoring. April 10, 2006 from Sylvia The U15 Pinnacle girls travelled to Salmon Arm last Sunday to play their second league game of the season in some ‘fresh country air’. The girls had an exciting start as Katie Filek pushed up early in the game and got a shot on goal. Filek had another scoring opportunity just a few minutes later after a beautiful cross by Tasha Bell, but couldn’t capitalize on either of those opportunities. Not much later in the game Kaitlyn Atkinson also got her foot on the ball and a shot on goal, but the ball just couldn’t find its way into Salmon Arm’s net. The Pinnacles’ defense had their work cut out for them, as Salmon Arm came back with lots of pressure. Jenny Severide, Angie Smythe, Sarah Cornett Ching and Brittany Pearce played outstanding in defense. Keeper Jackie Stelkia came through the first half with several good saves. Forwards Abbie Perehudoff, Tasha Bell and Kaitlyn Atkinson kept the pressure going, which made for lots of excitement in front of the Salmon Arm net. The teams went into half-time with lots of scoring opportunities on both ends but zero goals. The second half rolled into high gear with both sides playing an aggressive game. Perehudoff scored for the Pinnacles just a few minutes into the second half. The equalizer was scored by Salmon Arm not much later. Perehudoff had another exciting chance with a one-on-one with Salmon Arm’s keeper but couldn’t get it past. The Pinnacles will play lots of soccer this coming Easter weekend in Kelowna. Good luck girls!
April 5, 2006 from Marinus Mellaart The U15 Boys started their season opener with a hard fought win over the Kamloops Blazers 2 -1. The first half could only be described as organized chaos in front of both nets, there were scoring opportunities at both ends but neither team seemed to able to capitalize on their chances. The Pinnacles and new head coach Barry Owen with assistant coach Bob Leslie were implementing their new line up with three forwards – but were left wanting with a 0 – 0 draw at the end of the first half.
The second half was much of the same as the first half when Tyler Machial of Oliver opened the scoring for the Pinnacles. The play really rolled into high gear then with Kamloops wanting desperately to get the equalizer. Pinnacles Captain and forward Marino Mellaart of Penticton secured the second goal for the Pinnacles. The game became really intense as the Kamloops Blazers were desperate to get back into the game. The Kamloops Blazers were quite dominant in the second half and managed to get their first goal stretching out the Pinnacles defense with a quick ball forward from one of the Kamloops defenders. Midfielders Nate Surkan of Penticton, Morgan Brownjohn of Osoyoos was strong in the midfield and forward / midfielder Randy Hubber of Summerland did an excellent job both offensively and defensively.
Another great start for the SOYSA Pinnacles – well done!
April 3, 2006 from Gary Hovey Penticton's U14 Pinnacle Girls won their season opener Sunday beating Salmon Arm 2 to 1. Backed by a strong defence and mid-field the girls dominated the play.
April 2, 2006 from Sylvia SOYSA’s U15 Pinnacle girls played their first league game against Kamloops this past Sunday, April 2, at Kings Park in Penticton. The Pinnacles pressured Kamloops right from the whistle and Abby Perehudoff lead off the scoring with a beautiful goal from right field just a few minutes into the match. Katie Filek followed with a second goal after a break away, giving the Pinnacles a 2-0 lead. About ten minutes into the game Kamloops had a chance to score, but Pinnacle goalie Jackie Stelkia got a piece of the ball before it hit the post and was cleared out of the danger zone. The leading gap for the Pinnacles was expanded after a throw-in from Brittany Pearce lead to Perehudoff’s second goal, taking the Pinnacles into half-time with a 3-nil lead. Kamloops came on strong in the second half and managed to get by Stelkia fifteen minutes into the second half, bringing the score to 3-1. Melissa Bilko and Kaitlyn Atkinson both had a great opportunity to score, but couldn’t quite capitalize on it. Excellent defense was played by Brittany Pearce, Sarah Cornett Ching, Jenny Severide, Kelly Furness, Olivia Shaw and Angie Smythe.

They played some very strong games in an 8 vs 8 format, firstly against Kelowna U12B, losing in a close 2-1 game (Gabrielle Levesque putting a goal in the net). The other two games wound up in our favor with the second being a 2-1 win over Vernon White (Nikita Alfonso & Brianne Hrynyk scoring); and the third game a 6-0 victory against Vernon Blue (Gabrielle Levesque with 2 goals, Melanie Girard a single, and Brianne Hrynyk a hat trick). A special mention to Shayna Lawrie who played an extremely sound defence to hold back the attacking teams. Collectively, ALL OF THE GIRLS played very strong games together.
